Rather than the usual "word of the day". I thought I would have the first of a few posts that look at some interesting facts about the English language.
No word in the English language rhymes with month, purple, orange or silver.
The longest one-syllable word in the English language is "screeched."
Dreamt is the only English word ending in "mt."
The name of all the continents end with the same letter that they start with.
Satan is an anagram of Santa.
The words 'hymn' and 'rhythm' have no vowels.
The french words `eau` and `oui` have no consonants.
Words which start with Q, but not Qu:
qintar (coin formerly used in Albania)
qoph (19th letter of the Hebrew alphabet)
qwerty (Standard keyboad layout).
The following read the same backwards:
"Racecar"
"Step on no pets"
"Rise to vote sir"
"Was it a rat i saw?"
"Desserts i stressed"
"ten animals i slam in a net"
"A man, a plan, a canal - Panama!"
"Cigar? Toss it in a can, it is so tragic."
'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" has every letter of the alphabet in it.
