1.In modern usage, junta typically refers to a collective military dictatorship, which comprises a committee of high-ranking military officers (itself called a junta). Juntas are often not collegial in practice, as one officer often holds most power.
2. In Spanish, junta, literally "joint (meeting)", is used for various collegial bodies.
3. The traditional definition of junta is a governement committee or council, especially one that meets after a revolution. Or a close knit group of people united for a common purpose that usually meet in secret. Sometimes also called a junto.
